Prof. Marjan Peeters Talked about the Judicial Protection of Procedural environmental rights in EU


On the afternoon of November 29, 2018, the eightieth Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law was held in classroom 325 of law school. Prof. Marjan Peeters gave a lecture on “The judicial protection and execution of procedural environmental rights in EU”. This lecture was hosted by Dr. Hu Bin. PhD and master students from RIEL attended this lecture.

 

At the beginning of this lecture, Prof. Marjan Peeters introduced the legal system concerning the procedural environmental rights in EU, which includes the EU law, Aarhus Convention, European Convention on Human Rights, etc. Besides, she focused on the Regional Agreement on Access to Information, Public Participation and Justice in Environmental Matters in Latin America and the Caribbean. The provisions of that agreement on environmental activists are of great significance for protecting activists and solving the safety dilemma of environmental activists in this region.

 

Besides, Prof. Marjan Peeters took the regulations concerning the environmental NGOs on the Aarhus Convention as the entry point and discussed the definition and requirements for environmental NGOs. Later, she took the access to information in Aarhus Convention as an example and introduced its execution in European Court of Justice.

 

At last, those present teachers and students had a friendly and pleasant exchange on the case study methods and other relating issues. The lecture ended in a warm and relax atmosphere.
