On November 1, 2017, Prof John Paterson, vice president of the University of Aberdeen, visited RIEL. During the visit, both sides unveiled the "Wuhan University- Aberdeen University Environment and Energy Law Research Center" and held formal talks on future cooperation.

 

During the visit, the delegation from Aberdeen University also held specific discussions with RIEL on establishing the Center. Professor John Paterson, Vice President of Aberdeen University, Dr. Emre Usenmez, Director of International Development, Dr. Deng Hai, Senior Lecturer of University of Aberdeen, Professor Qin Tianbao, Director of RIEL, Dr. Hu Bin, Vice Director of RIEL, Professor Ben Boer and Professor Zhang Zhiwei, Associate Professor Luo Ji, Associate Professor Li Guangbing, Associate Professor Liu Jing attended the meeting.

 

Both parties agreed that the research center will adhere to the guiding principle of paying equal attention to both research and teaching. The two sides first selected areas for joint research and plan to jointly organize an international symposium on environment and energy law and jointly publish the research results in the Chinese Journal of Environmental Law and the Climate Law and other international journals. The two sides decided that in April 2018, Dual Master's Degree in Environmental Law at Wuhan University and Energy Law at Aberdeen University will be officially launched.
