Chinese and American legal experts visit Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law

On October 18, 2016, the 37th Luojia Lecture Series on Environmental Law invited Prof. Jack Tuholske from Vermont Law School in America, Ms. Zhuang Yu from US-Asian Environmental Law Center, and Ms. Ge Feng, the law and policy advocacy director of “Friends of Nature”. They gave a lecture entitled “Comparison of Sino- US Public Interest Litigation”.

This lecture was given in two parts. First, Prof. Jack Tuholske made a simple review and narration of the development of environmental citizen litigation in the United States, emphasizing on US judicial authorities’ involvement of environmental interest litigation, the composition of American NGOs as well as the plaintiff's qualification. And Ms. Ge Feng conducted a thematic report on the comparison between China and America and talked about her view on its future development. She cited three representative cases of soil pollution, ecological damage, and air pollution, illustrating the efforts and roles of “Friends of Nature”. In the second part, Researcher Zhuang Yu briefly introduced on the project “Ecological Practicer”, summer programs and kinds of degree programs in Vermont Law School.

Then Prof. Luo Ji made a concluding speech, in which She appreciated two guests’ comprehensive report with highlighted key points. Finally, the students present proposed some problems about the supervision and management of the compensation of public interest litigation and how to get the evidence in legal cases to Prof. Jack Tuholske and Ms. Ge Feng.
