Teachers of RIEL attend the 3rd Cross-Strait Symposium on Environmental Law

On April 13-18, 2016, the “3rd Cross-Strait Symposium on Environment Law” was held in Kaohsiung, Taiwan. With the theme of “issues and countermeasures of local environmental law”, the symposium was hosted by China Association for Environment and Resources Law and Taiwan Environmental Law Association, and co-sponsored by Law Institute of Science and Technology and Research Center of Environmental and Energy Law, Kaohsiung First University of Science and Technology. Prof. Cai Shouqiu, Prof. Ke Jian, Assoc. Prof. Li Guangbing, and Alumni Prof. Zhang Zitai, Prof. Gao Lihong, Prof. Zhang Jianwei, Prof. Wang Shijin, attended the symposium.

Delegates had lively and fruitful exchanges and discussions around the theme of the symposium, covering the environmental law in mainland China during ecological civilization construction, the implementation of Paris Agreement, local legislation on climate change, financial system and responsibility for the implementation of mainland environmental law, law and practice of local governments’ developing more stringent sewage discharge standards, urban environmental protection and local autonomous legislation, local government’s role in river basin management, low-carbon city autonomous regulations, the construction of leading demonstration areas of local ecological civilization, the systematism of local environmental and resources legislation, the Circular Economy Promotion Law in mainland China, the legislation of deep-sea exploration and development, and so on.

It is said that the Cross-Strait Symposium on Environmental Law is institutionalize academic exchange platform co-sponsored by the China Environment and Resources Law Research Association and the Taiwan Environmental Law Assosiation, aiming at facilitating and promoting common progress and development of environmental law on both sides in the form of high-end academic conferences. The first symposium was held in Taipei, 2014, the second in Wuhan, 2015. And the fourth next year will be held back to the mainland.
