Manon Simon was born in Brittany, France. She studied legal and political philosophy before graduating with an LLB in Public Law from the University of Poitiers, and specialized in International and European Law with a focus on criminal sciences. She obtained an LLM Degree in Environmental and Natural Resources Law from the University of Oregon in the United States, in conducting research on transboundary air pollution and human rights to a healthy environment. She has conducted research on transposing the common law doctrine of Atmospheric Trust to civil law public property regimes, demonstrating the existence of an international customary duty to protect the global air composition. Moreover, Ms.Simon drafted general submissions for the Committee on the Rights of the Child, in response to the Special Rapporteur’s call on the Implications for Human Rights of the Environmentally Sound Management and Disposal of Hazardous Substances and Wastes, as an intern at the UNEP Secretariat of the Basel, Rotterdam and Stockholm conventions. Now she has a strong interest in developing liability regimes for the consequences of environmental damages by enforcing transgenerational human rights, including the procedural rights of children in environmental matters.
